bitter defeat

1. i didn't save buster's eye...had to remove it last night. :( but his new family LOVES HIM!

2. i couldn't make it through the stephen hawking book...lost my will during the second chapter. i even lost interest flipping through the rest and looking at the pictures.

the worst day of the year

well, it was supposed to be, but it wasn't. every year portland cyclists gather to scoff at the weather and act a little goofy in the worst day of the year ride. what a great town. of course the weather turned out great, except when it started to pour during my car ride home afterwards (i felt a little smug at that point). i added a new set to flickr with some of my photos from the ride.

is this ever going to heal?

it's been like four weeks (maybe three, i don't remember). the nail's growing, but there's never any non-black new nail at the bottom. i'm going to be really irritated if it tries to fall off.

on the plus side, when i show it to people, i get to make a vulgar gesture at them.

last night buster spent his first night with his new potential owners...hopefully they won't be calling me in a couple of hours with second thoughts. they seemed a little disappointed that he had to wear an e-collar for two weeks, but maybe they'll get over it.

so i'm about to head up to the slopes to cause myself more physical pain, hooray.

i'm such a sucker

firstly, on an unrelated note, i realized i totally stole my last title from cabell's blog instead of pulling it from the depths of my vocabulary and wit. oops.

so i knew this would happen eventually, but i finally had someone sign over their animal to me this weekend (so i can take financial responsibility, hooray!). now i have a "new dog." but it's only temporary, i'm trying to find a home for him. it was just one of those cases where i couldn't see euthanizing an otherwise young healthy animal for a treatable problem that someone wasn't willing to pay for.

here's the little guy with his eye sutured shut (he had a partial proptosis so i had to do that to keep the massive bulging thing at bay). hopefully it will heal ok, but some of them don't regain vision or they have other problems. we'll see... definitely not a life-threatening problem though. oh yeah, as soon as i got my hands on him i neutered him too. ha. so until he meets his new potential owner tonight, he's staying with us and sage is a little jealous. but she's dealing.

i also have to show off my new birdfeeder, mostly for gail's benefit. :)

well that picture kind of sucks but i'm too lazy to crop and zoom. you may or may not be able to tell that it's shaped like a cat-tail and there are little birdies going crazy around it. we also got a cool copper one to hang by a window and that one has been a big hit with the finches.
