the best couch ever

so here are some random pieces of a lovely 1981 sectional that we recently purchased. unfortunately, the entire massive "U" shaped set was not available in its entirety as the pieces had been split up. the whole thing wouldn't have fit into a normal living room anyway. and four pieces are still interesting.

getting settled

we finally arrived in pullman and the past week has been a lot of unpacking, arranging, rearranging, and purchasing. tomorrow is my last day of freedom before orientation at WSU begins.

today i met the other small animal interns: ben, heather, and sarah. ben is fresh off clinics (graduated last weekend) but heather and sarah have been doing nothing like me for over a month. i was relieved to find out that i won't be the only one who might be a bit rusty when we get thrown back into things next week. anyway, i had a positive impression of all of them -- which is good since we'll be spending so much time with each other over tne next year.

so now i'm going to post some pictures of the van driving through various states.

ahhh, missoula

and finally a hotel (actually motel) with some internet action. it's the light at the end of the tunnel now, we should have about 5 hours more driving tomorrow before we reach Pullman. and since this is my first (and only) trip update...

day one was our teary goodbyes and then a drive to council bluffs/omaha. pretty uneventful driving.

day two we drove through more of iowa and then almost all the way across south dakota to deadwood, sd. it rained on and off almost the whole day and chris ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere (which is pretty much all of south dakota). not a whole lot to see except farmland. nice, though. we did take a small detour through the badlands which is amazing. deadwood is essentially a tiny tourist town in the black hills. legalized gambling saved the town, and now there are several casinos that capitalize on the fact that this is the town where wild bill hickock was shot and killed in 1876. we were going to play some cards after going out to dinner, but were too exhausted by the time we ate.

today we drove through the northeast corner of wyoming and across montana to missoula. beatiful country. the hardest section of road was crossing the continental divide, but both cars made it. so tonight we're ahead of where we thought we'd end up, allowing us to sleep in a little tomorrow and still have a shorter drive. now we're awaiting some dinner and are taking it easy. the cats are glad to be out of the car and we are too.
